The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHRs) protects the right to life of 'all members of the human family'. Since the unborn are members of the human family the UDHRs protects the right to life of the unborn. The Declaration on the Rights of the Child states that, '...the child, by reason of his physical and mental immaturity, needs special safeguards and care, including appropriate legal protection, before as well as after birth.'
United for Life wrote to a number of charities, human rights and other organisations , to ask them to join the Make Abortion History campaign, including the NSPCC . Some organisations claim they do not work on abortion and would not join the Make Abortion History campaign while others claim they work for the elimination of other human rights abuses worldwide in accordance with the definition of international human rights instruments.
- United for Life wrote to the NSPCC before June 2005 and again on the 10th October 2005. The NSPCC replied on 24th October 2005 , stating that,

Unfortunately the NSPCC does not campaign on the issue of abortion as it is beyond the scope of our mandate, which is to act on behalf of children. The UK legislation and Conventions under which the NSPCC operates define ‘children’ as those between birth and 18. We are therefore unable to join United for Life’s campaign.
However, as we have shown above, the Convention on the Rights of the Child defines the unborn as children when it states that, '...the child, by reason of his physical and mental immaturity, needs special safeguards and care, including appropriate legal protection, before as well as after birth.'
Before 1807 the salve-trade was a legal activity. The 1807 Act of Abolition shows that the law can be changed. The NSPCC has been active in lobbying the government for changes in the law in regard to children and family life and should be active in lobbying for the full implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in regard to the unborn into British and European law.
United for Life replied to the NSPCC's 24th October 2005 letter on 11th September 2006 .
United for Life would like to demonstrate to the NSPCC and other organisations how the killing of children by abortion, contraception, sterilisation and related activities such as human embryo experimentation, human cloning and IVF, violate international human rights instruments including instruments on slavery and therefore should be addressed by national and international human rights programmes and campaigns.
You can read in full the case we present to the NSPCC from here .
No group of humans can be treated as 'non-persons' and this includes the disabled, the elderly, slaves, Jews, the unborn or any other group, including human embryos. Thus, no excuse can be made to exclude any group of humans from equal protection under law.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights proclaims these Rights as 'a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations' and that 'every individual and every organ of society ...shall strive ...to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance ...among the peoples of Member States.' It is therefore United for Life's duty to call upon the NSPCC to help promote legal protection for children before as well as after birth.
Join in our lobby of these organisations by making your concerns known to them and urge them to withhold support for abortion and make abortion history.
