United for Life Make Abortion History Campaign
CAFOD Correspondence & Commitment Results
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHRs) protects the right to life of 'all members of the human family'. Since the unborn are members of the human family the UDHRs protects the right to life of the unborn. The Declaration on the Rights of the Child states that, '...the child, by reason of his physical and mental immaturity, needs special safeguards and care, including appropriate legal protection, before as well as after birth.'

Please Note: Make Abortion History is an ongoing campaign. United for Life may reply to the above letter in due course but this may take some time.
Why CAFOD must oppose the killing of children by abortion and must protect the right to life of human embryos
There are a number of points to be made concerning our correspondence with CAFOD.
POINT 1. CAFOD & The Millennium Development Goals
On the 23rd June 2005 CAFOD replied to our letter asking them to join our Make Abortion History campaign. You can read CAFOD's reply in PDF format from the link above. CAFOD said they ' would oppose any such moves' to include abortion as a goal of the Millennium Development Goals. We then asked CAFOD on 2nd July 2005 the three following questions :
- How will CAFOD internationally oppose moves to include access to abortion in the Millennium Development Goals which are being made by IPPF, UNFPA and others?
- How CAFOD intends to lobby these groups and others?
- Will CAFOD rally its partner-organisations to help in opposing 'any such moves' ?
POINT 2. Will CAFOD Oppose Abortion Across the Board?
CAFOD replied to our 23rd June letter on 1st August 2005 by email which can be read in full from the PDF link above. CAFOD claimed 'this is something we will raise with our partner Caritas organisations'. However, United for Life would like CAFOD to lobby ALL its partner-organisations, not just Caritas. United for Life would also like CAFOD to lobby them not only to exclude abortion (ie. reproductive, gender and health rights) from the UN's Millennium Development Goals but to make abortion history in every organ of society.
Further, will CAFOD be committed to implementing in full the UDHRs and the Declaration on the Right of the Child in regard to the unborn by supporting and working to gain legal protection for children before as well as after birth?
POINT 3. CAFOD & Its Abortion Promoting Partner-Organisation ' OneWorld UK'
Concerned about CAFOD's partner-organisation 'OneWord UK' for its stance on promoting abortion worldwide, United for Life wrote the following letter to CAFOD on 19th December 2005 :
United for Life
Raising greater awareness of human life issues
19 December 2005
Mr Chris Bain Director CAFOD Romero Close LONDON SW9 9TY
Dear Mr Bain
I would like to bring to your attention the work of the organisation called OneWorld UK. According to CAFOD’s website, CAFOD is a regular contributor to OneWorld TV and OneWorld lists CAFOD as a partner organisation.
According to OneWorld’s website, under gender issues, they have a listing of the issue ‘Women’s Health and Reproductive Rights’ in which OneWorld are calling for ever greater abortion rights for women around the world.
Concerning partners, OneWorld claims, ‘OneWorld is a growing community of more than 1,500 organisations committed to social justice, sustainable development and human rights. Partnership is essential to OneWorld's mission. Our partners produce most of our web content. We reciprocate by promoting their work, making connections, and bringing a worldwide audience to their websites.’
I enclose copies of the relevant web pages.
Could you please tell me if CAFOD has written to OneWorld to oppose OneWorld’s support for abortion?
We await your considered response.
Yours sincerely
Chris Mason Co-ordinator United for Life www.unitedforlife.com info@unitedforlife.com

You can access the above letter in PDF format from the link at the top of this page. CAFOD repled to the above letter on 1st February 2006 which can also be downlaoded in PDF format at the top of this page. United for Life may reply to this letter in due course but this may take some time.
No group of humans can be treated as 'non-persons' and this includes the disabled, the elderly, slaves, Jews, the unborn or any other group, including human embryos. Thus, no excuse can be made to exclude any group of humans from equal protection under law.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights proclaims these Rights as 'a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations' and that 'every individual and every organ of society ...shall strive ...to secure their universal and effective recognition and observance ...among the peoples of Member States.' It is therefore United for Life's duty to call upon CAFOD to help promote legal protection for children before as well as after birth.
Join in our lobby of these organisations by making your concerns known to them and urge them to withhold support for abortion and make abortion history.
